last weekend john, mike, and i trouped into the woods with the rest of the family to find a perfect tree. i wanted a little one since i wasn't sure how the kids would do with a tree. everyone found a great tree and had a great time. the week past in a blur. in the evening i was bent on making cookies for christmas. so on monday night i made peppermint patties. on tuesday night i made pecan caramel tarts. on wednesday, thursday, and friday i was too tired to do anything. yesterday i did get sugar cookies made. i'm hoping to add a few other treats but we'll see. last night mike and i got to hang at home by ourselves. john went to nana and papa's while mike and i had so down time to our ourselves. we ate dinner at home, watched a movie, and played yatzee. it was great to hang together and just relax.
so to the future weeks...
we are here for christmas this year. i am excited to spend a full day with my family. it will be fun to hang with everyone including two little boys underfoot. sure to make some fun memories. after christmas here the coming friday we are headed to mn to see mike's folks and sure to make more great memories.
some thoughts of late...
how christmas is so much about santa and receiving gifts. a few recent discussions have me dwelling on it. i was talking with a friend and she stated she knows a family that the children get over a thousand gifts for christmas and all from santa. the kids don't even give gifts. mike and i are were both raised with no belief of santa. for both our families its been the tradition of our savior's birth. both our families have celebrated christmas eve. the one thing that i love to do and has always been a tradition in my family is to read the christmas story from the bible. we all sit down and the night starts with reading the bible, sharing thoughts about the year and the year to come. its become a time for reflection and thankfulness. i am so thankful for learning about what really matters. that christ is the center and nothing else.
mike and i are so thankful for this year. not an easy year but a good year. as the new year comes we will continue to learn how to communicate with each other, teach our son right from wrong, pray for a passion to serve others and live our lives for Christ.
